Find It @ ECU links in Google Scholar

Currently, FindIt@ECU links are not automatically appearing within Google Scholar search results for users on campus. This normally happens, but there is a problem at the moment which is preventing this occurring.

We have been told that the links may reappear on or after Friday 13 February, as we are waiting for Google to search the server again. When it does, details will be updated and that's when links to ECU will re-appear.

We apologise for any inconvenience. This currently affects all users on and off campus using any browser.

For more information on how to set up links manually once the problem is fixed (not necessary for Internet Explorer users on campus), please visit http://www.ecu.edu.au/library/system/google_scholar.htm

Not accurate. Also affects overseas students using browsers other than Internet Explorer. My friend uses the Windows OS, I use the Mac OS. We both have the same problem. What is available after input of Edith Cowan University into the 'Library Links" is a tick box with "Edith Cowan University - Full Text@IngentaConnect" and this is greyed out so no option to activate this box.

This blog article accurately reflects the situation at the moment - unfortunately links do not work at present, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.

It is worth noting that this is due to an error by the supplier, and the links have since been reinstated on the server.

Once Google Scholar resample the links on the server (estimated to be Friday 13th February) the service should work as normal.

As far as we know, links can only be added to Internet Explorer and Firefox. We are investigating other browsers, but we suggest if you are having problems with one of these browsers, to try using the other.

The page http://www.ecu.edu.au/library/system/google_scholar.htm gives information on setting up links manually. You should ignore "Edith Cowan University - Full Text@IngentaConnect" as stated in the above webpage.

Lastly, please remember to wait at least until 13th February before setting up the links again to give Google Scholar a chance to resample the server.

Unfortunately, on Friday 13th March the vendor who supplies us with SFX Find It had a problem with their servers - they lost our Google Scholar registration. The vendor has now fixed the server problem, but it may take up to 10 days for the Google Scholar crawlers to pick up the fix. This means it should be fixed very soon. Apologies for the inconvenience caused to users.

On Monday 23 March we were informed that Google Scholar again failed to pick up ECU's registration from our vendor's SFX Find It server. This has been reported back to the vendor and will be escalated if there is no action by next week. Incidentally, some other universities are also experiencing the same issue. We will post updates as more information comes to hand.

It's pretty inconvenient for external students working on mid semester exams. I rely on this link to access journals to justify my answers. Can you please notify us when it is operational again?

Weds 8 April: We have been informed that our SFX Find It vendor has corrected the problem that prevented Google Scholar reading ECU's data. It will take 7-10 days for Google Scholar to re-query the vendor's servers, and it is estimated that full Google Scholar services will be restored a few days after that.
