ebook trial finishes

The student demand driven E-Book project has come to an end for 2008. The project successfully purchased over 600 new e-book titles based on the selection and use of those titles by students. E-book titles that have been purchased by ECU are accessible via the library catalogue. Those titles that we did not purchase (titles used less than three times) will no longer be accessible to staff and students for the remainder of 2008. If you require access to tiles that are no longer available please send through a "suggest to purchase" request to your Faculty Librarian via the "suggest a purchase link" in the Library catalogue or contact your Faculty Librarian direct.

We would also love to have your comments on this trial.

Quote of the day

The quote of the day bowl sitting on the Reference desk at the Mt Lawley campus library has become very popular amongst the library users, providing that extra bit of interest to the library visit. As it has been so popular, we have decided to add a quote of the day option to our blog so those online may also get the experience... let us know what you think.

Budding scientists visit the Joondalup Campus Library

Last Monday afternoon a group of twenty young science students visited the ECU Joondalup Campus Library as part of their Year 10 academic enhancement program. The students were from Irene McCormack College, Mater Dei College, Prendiville College and Sacred Heart College. Greg Bates the Campus Librarian introduced them to our library before they had a brief tour of the library building.

Dr Christine Ormond, Lecturer in Mathematics Education wanted the students to get a feel for the university study environment available in the new purpose built library. Students accessed our library catalogue, searched for material and used the library study spaces to research their science projects.

The culmination of the enhancement program will be the presentation of their topic to an audience including ECU academics, their families and friends on the evening of September 15th at ECU.

A University Librarian for ECU Library

Major changes are afoot for the ECU Library with two campus library buildings being refurbished to follow the standard set by the new building opened for business at the Joondalup campus last year.

In addition, a recent structural change sees the Library, formerly part of the Knowledge and IT Services Centre (KITSC) becoming the Library Services Centre (LSC) and reporting to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning).

Mr Dan Archibald, formerly Manager of Library Services has been transferred to the newly created position of University Librarian. Many will be pleased to see the position of University Librarian once again on the establishment. Best wishes Dan..
