Library resources for School of Exercise, Biomedical and Health Sciences

Check out the online subject guides that are now available for Addiction Studies, Biomedical Science, Human Biology, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, OSH, Public Health and Sports Science via the Library Resources by Faculty/CHS page

These guides provide a “snapshot” of the range of library resources available at ECU in each subject area. The focus is on online resources accessible via the Library Homepage. Also included are links to information and support materials for Research and Referencing. The guides are updated on a regular basis.

New catalogue to be launched in semester 2, 2008

A re-designed new catalogue is due for launch in second semester, 2008. Features will include:-

(1) Tabbed display of catalogue records
(2) Item availability shown on first tab
(3) "Did you mean..?" spell-checking capability for keyword searches
(4) Automatic relevance ranking of keyword search results, most relevant items can be shown first
(5) Choice of sorting keyword results by date or alphabetically as well as by relevance
(6) Book jacket images shown beside many items - these link to a larger image
(7) RSS feeds - which will deliver the latest information about new library items into your feed-reader automatically
(8) RSS feeds of items due for pickup from the library, plus warnings about overdue items
(9) Ability to view a condensed version of the catalogue on a hand-held device, e.g., PDA
(10) 'Suggest a purchase' forms which allows you to send us details of items you would like bought by the library
(11) 'Star' rating facility for all items, and ability to leave comments against any items.

IEEE database

ECU Library has extended its holdings of IEEE publications to include complete coverage of journals, conference papers, and standards listed in the IEEE database until June 2009.

Access the additional titles using the IEEE database. Locate this database from the title or subject lists on ECU Library's Find Journal Articles (Databases) pages and search for your topic and the full text will be presented in the results.


Those of you who are interested in getting an ISSN or ISBN for your publications may wish to check out this ECU website

ScienceDirect ejournals downtime notification

Alert: Notification has been received advising that Elsevier ejournals accessible via the library cataogue will not be available on Saturday 12 April, 10.00 am to 12.00 noon.

Zoological Record

Zoological Record is a library database that indexes over 5,000 international journals, books and other literature from 1978. It covers animal science literature including conservation, evolution, genetics, fossil records, marine and freshwater biology, parasitology and disease, reproduction, taxonomy and veterinary studies. Linking technology provides access to full text holdings if held at ECU. Access via the find databases by tile page.

EndNote XI

Endnote XI is now available for download. Go here to register for access. Specifications for PC and Mac usage is listed on this link. The EndNote XI CD-ROMs for download will be available from each campus library soon.

Self paced assistance using the latest version of EndNote is available for various platforms and in several formats from this link.

All student SOE machines have to access EndNote XI.

EndNote v. 9 and using connect files

Anybody wishing to use connect files to search the library catalogue using EndNote v9 and have downloaded End Note v9 from a CD ROM in the Library, needs to do the following fix. The library catalogue has been moved to a new server, so you will need to modify the ECU Library catalogue connection file to be able to connect to the ECU catalogue.

1. Start Endnote

2. Go to EDIT

3. Connection files

4. Open connection manager

5. Highlight Edith Cowan Uni

6. Then click on Edit.

7. Choose Connection settings

8. Enter the following Server address

9. Exit saying yes when asked if you want to save changes.
