NATIONAL AWARD FOR ECU LIBRARY SERVICES

ECU Library Services Centre has received an award from the Australian Learning and Teaching Council: "For a sustained contribution to the improvement of learning through collaborative library services, and leadership in the design and effective use of innovative learning spaces."

These prestigious national awards recognise contributions to the quality of student learning and improving the overall student experience and places ECU among the top academic libraries in Australia.

Professor Richard Johnstone, ALTC Executive Director, said the citations reveal the tremendous commitment in the higher education sector to improving the student experience.

“The quality and quantity of applications received represent the incredible effort made by university staff Australia-wide to contribute to a positive learning experience for every student,” Professor Johnstone said.

Congratulations to all library staff on this well deserved award.

EBL (ebook Library) download function disabled

The “Download” function for EBL(ebook Library) titles enabled users to save the entire ebook to their computer’s hard drive and would “expire” (i.e. become non-accessible) after 1 or 3 days.

As a result of a range of technical & IT issues, as well as restrictions placed on reading the downloaded ebook, the “Download” function for EBL titles has been disabled.

As with other electronic books from other providers, ECU staff and students can still read EBL titles online and print the allowable number of pages. All other existing functionalities are still available.

Please contact your respective Faculty or Subject Librarians should you have any questions.

E-Book Access Changes

E-Book Access Changes

Students and Staff at ECU will notice that access to EBL e-book titles has been restricted to only those titles ECU own as part of our electronic collection. This is due to the fact that our “student driven selection” of EBL titles has ended for 2009 with about $100,000 being spent by ECU students in 6 months. We hope to bring this project back in 2010! In the meantime e-books we currently own can be accessed in the catalogue and requests can be made to access non-owned EBL titles from the “suggest a book” link on the Library homepage.

Food in the library - your thoughts

We have opened up the library to food. More bins have been provided, yet food scraps are still left on tables and chairs.

What do you think, are you happy with the current food policy or can you think of other options to allow food but still keep the library clean???

We need your feedback!
